Dark Circles
Dark Circles
Dark circles refer to the appearance of darkened skin under the eyes, often giving a tired, aged, or stressed look. They are not a medical concern on their own, but are a common cosmetic issue that can affect people of all ages and skin tones.
Characteristics:
Colour: Blue, purple, brown, black, or reddish hues depending on skin tone and underlying cause.
Location: Typically appear just below the lower eyelids, but can extend toward the upper cheeks.
Texture: Skin may appear thinner, sunken, or puffy, especially if combined with bags under the eyes.
Symmetry: Usually affects both eyes, but can be more prominent on one side.
Common Causes
Genetics: Some people naturally have more pigment or thinner skin under the eyes.
Fatigue & Lack of Sleep: Reduces circulation and makes skin paler, emphasizing dark blood vessels.
Allergies: Can cause rubbing and inflammation that darkens the under-eye area.
Aging: Thinner skin and loss of fat or collagen make blood vessels more visible.
Dehydration: Makes skin look dull and eyes sunken.
Sun exposure: Increases melanin production, worsening pigmentation.
Lifestyle factors: Smoking, alcohol, and poor diet can contribute.
